Toyota reveals wooden Sesuna concept
Japanese ca maker previews pure-electric roadster made from cedar and birch that it will unveil at Milan Design Week in AprilToyota has shown off an all-new pure-electric concept for Milan Design Week. Dubbed Setsuna, it is made almost entirely from timber using traditional Japanese woodworking techniques that do away with screws, nails or adhesives.
Setsuna is claimed to be Japanese for ‘moment’. The new roadster measures in at 3030mm long, 1480mm wide and stands 970mm tall.
Made for the famous Italian design festival and powered by an electric motor and lithium batteries, the Setsuna’s timber construction is supposed to age over its lifetime and pick up marks and imperfections that are supposed to tell the car’s life story.
According to the Toyota engineers who created the concept, if ever made, the Setsuna’s aging process over time would see it develop "a complex and unique character".
More information on the Setsuna will be revealed following its unveil at Milan Design Week that runs from April 12-17.
