BMW has previewed the 2022 BMW M4 CSL that has been created to celebrate 50 years of BMW M performance cars, accidentally posting shadowy teaser images on Facebook overnight.
The post, now removed, was spotted by Autoblog before it was deleted and is expected to reappear in the coming days ahead of its official reveal at the Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este that's held in Italy on May 20-22.
The new images reveal that the BMW M4 CSL will feature yellow C-shaped daytime running lights reminiscent of the recently launched BMW M5 CS.
Look closer and you might also be able to spot the large lower carbon-fibre splitter.
At the back of the car the shadowy teaser clearly shows off the CSL's trademark ducktail spoiler that was mostly used on the M4 GTS.
Finally, the M4 CSL seems to sport a pair of trick new LED tail-lights that feature hairline graphics.
Previously seen testing, the G82-series M4 CSL will also come with a wider track, suggesting significant suspension changes underneath.
Less easy to make out are the weight-saving measures the CSL will employ to shave the kilos off the standard BMW M4 Competition's portly 1725kg kerb weight.
Boosting performance further, it's expected the S58 3.0-litre twin-turbocharged inline six-cylinder will come with a mild power boost over the M4 Competition's 375kW and 650Nm of torque, thanks to new tech like water injection.
Other changes will include aggressive semi-slick cup tyres, a half rollcage (with a rear-seat delete) and a fire extinguisher.
The jury's out on whether the most extreme M4 yet will keep the M4 Competition's eight-speed torque-converter automatic, but the towering development costs involved with reconfiguring it with a quicker dual-clutch transmission means it will probably make do with the eight-speeder.
A six-speed manual may also be offered, but it's almost certain the CSL will be rear-wheel drive only
