Track-focused Maserati MCXtrema set for August 18 debut

Hardcore Maserati MC20-based track tool features more wings, more scoops and plenty more power

The incoming 2024 Maserati MCXtrema inspired by the wild 2022 Project24 concept will be unwrapped on August 18, the Italian car-maker has announced.

Created to be the fastest Maserati ever, the MCXtrema is based on the Maserati MC20 supercar but was never intended to be road-legal.

That explains why the MCXtrema is set to come with big wings and massive air intakes and brake ducts, plus enlarged turbochargers that bump power from the 3.0-litre biturbo V6 up from 463kW to 544kW.

Instead of the road car's eight-speed dual-clutch transmission, the MCXtrema will come with a racing-derived six-speed sequential transmission.

Powerful carbon-ceramic Brembo brakes will also be part of the package, along with adjustable ABS and traction control and a stripped-out cabin with full roll cage.

Buyers will be offered the option of a passenger seat.

Created to rival track-only cars like the Lamborghini Essenza SCV12 and McLaren Senna GTR, the Maserati MCXtrema follows on from the MC12 Versione Corsa that was briefly on sale back in 2006.

Releasing a teaser to confirm the name and 62-unit run of cars, no further details were revealed other than it will be unveiled at the Monterey Car Week.

It's expected the track day tool for the rich will command a seven-figure price tag before options and customisation.
