Track-suited Lamborghini SCV12 hypercar previewed

Italian supercar-maker gives us our first look at wild track-only model that should produce more than 610kW from its uncorked V12

First images of a new hard-core Lamborghini hypercar for wealthy track-day fans have been released ahead of its world debut on June 30 and first deliveries later this year.

Developed by Squadra Corse, the Italian supercar-maker's motorsport division, the Lamborghini SCV12 will be powered by a naturally-aspirated 6.5-litre V12 that will be "capable of exceeding 830hp (610kW)", says Lambo.

That figure is at least 44kW more than the most powerful Aventador SVJ and, to achieve that figure, engineers have pulled out all the stops.

The Lamborghini SCV12 gets a ram-air air scoop that forces extra air through the engine's intake manifold to give a boost of power at high speeds.

Based on an all-new carbon-fibre monocoque structure, the SCV12 could be around 200kg lighter as it ditches a driven front drive axle and switches to rear-drive.

A racecar-style six-speed sequential manual transmission is primed to offer far faster gear changes and also acts as a stressed member, shedding yet more weight.Free of any regulations, Squadra Corse has created an entirely new body including a braced front splitter, front and rear canards, finned side skirts, a gaping rear diffuser and an enormous rear wing, resulting in an aero package that will produce more downforce than a GT3 racer.

Pushrod suspension, magnesium alloy wheels and acres of race-grade carbon-fibre used for practically everything complete the weight-saving measures and the SCV12 will wear slick Pirelli tyres.

Every buyer will be offered advanced driver training led by five-times Le Mans winner, Emanuele Pirro, with the full support of Lamborghini's Squadra Corse engineers.

No pricing details have been revealed as yet, but the ultra-limited Lamborghini SCV12 is guaranteed to cost multiple millions of dollars.

It's thought that as well as being offered to its wealthiest customers, the latest Lamborghini hypercar will provide the basis for a 2021 Le Mans entry in the new hypercar category.
