Both the Genesis GV60 Magma and the G80 EV Magma concepts will take on the iconic hillclimb at this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed, where several other high-performance Genesis concept cars will form static displays.
Two of those concepts have already been nominated as the Genesis G80 Magma Special and the Genesis X Gran Berlinetta concept, but we wouldn’t be surprised if the recently teased G70 Magma made its first public appearance too.
“Be ready to enjoy a thrilling experience. Something fast is on the horizon,” Genesis teased via its global Instagram page, where the description was accompanied by a flurry of Nurburgring-related hashtags.
Having debuted at the New York and Beijing auto shows respectively, the 2024 Genesis GV60 Magma and 2024 Genesis G80 EV Magma concepts are the first two EVs to come from the premium Korean brand’s new Magma high-performance program, which was pre-empted last year by the ‘magma orange’ GV80 Coupe concept.
The former is anticipated to be a more premium derivative of the game-changing Hyundai IONIQ 5 N, having recently been spotted testing in Germany fitted with N-spec alloys and N-branded brakes.
If that’s the case, the GV60 Magma will pack outputs of 478kW/770Nm and launch from 0-100km/h in less than 3.5 seconds, however, its shorter wheelbase and overall smaller dimensions should make for even more responsive handling.
That’s certainly shaping up to be the case, since Genesis has confirmed the concept will actually compete at Goodwood as well as be on display.
“For the first time ever, Genesis will also be competing to take part in the Shootout Sunday with GV60 Magma Concept, showcasing its driving capabilities and turn of speed,” said a Genesis spokesperson.
“The Genesis Magma program… adds a new dimension to Genesis, marking the brand’s expansion into the realm of high-performance cars.”
The Hyundai Motor Group will be hoping for a better outing at Goodwood this year after one of its RN22e ‘rolling labs’ was put into the hay bales during a demonstration run, tearing the rear bumper off the specially-prepared IONIQ 5 N drift car.
