Volkswagen has teased a pram that’s said to harness its autonomous technology to automatically follow its parents in an urban environment.
The autonomous pram is the work of Volkswagen Netherlands’ engineers following a Facebook competition asking its Dutch fans what automotive technology should be applied to improve other products.
The overwhelming response from Facebook comments was to improve prams or strollers by adding self-driving tech.
The prototype, revealed in the video, is said to harness radar and laser sensors from the Volkswagen Golf’s adaptive cruise control and emergency brake tech.
This helps it follow, steer and guide itself without an operator -- or that’s at least what the video claims.
Some more cynical commentators doubt the tech is actually installed on the pram since the coding involved could take significant time and financial investment for such a small publicity stunt.
