Volkswagen Amarok 10 Deserts Edition heralds price cut for VW ute range

More capable special edition based on world-record-setting ute ushers in cheaper drive-away pricing for all Amarok models

The new 2025 Volkswagen Amarok 10 Deserts Edition has been priced for Australia, with the special edition introduced as VW announces cheaper drive-away pricing for all members of the Amarok line-up.

The big news is, as part of the MY25 lineup updates, the Volkswagen Amarok TDI405 Core is now priced from $55,990 drive-away – around $4000 cheaper than before.

However, recent end-of-year discounts did briefly see the base ute available for an even lower $53,990 drive away during the month of May.

The biggest savings have been applied to the petrol-powered Amarok TSI452 Adventura. That variant is now pegged at $79,990 drive away, offering a considerable saving over its previous $82,990 plus on-road costs (ORCs) recommended retail price.

The new Amarok 10 Deserts Edition, meanwhile, slots into the lineup priced from $69,990 drive away, sitting between the Life TDI500 and Style TDI500.

Commemorating the Amarok that set a new Guinness World Record after it crossed Australia’s 10 deserts in just six days and 17 hours, the new VW ute features a 40mm suspension lift and 17-inch satin black alloy wheels that are wrapped in Continental ATR all-terrain tyres.

The special edition also scores added underbody protection, a black sports bar, soft tonneau cover and 10 Deserts Edition floor mats and decals that commemorate the record.

What’s missing is, instead of the record holder’s 184kW/600Nm 3.0-litre turbo-diesel V6, the new special is equipped with the lesser 154kW/500Nm 2.0-litre bi-turbo-diesel four-cylinder engine.

Elsewhere in the range, the MY25 upgrade introduces a new 230-volt outlet in the rear tub of the Style, PanAmericana and Aventura trims that is combined with a 400-watt inverter that can power smaller appliances, like laptops.

The same three trims also gain Trailer Assist as standard, that works with the Amarok’s rear traffic alert tech.

Externally, the Amarok carries over unchanged with the MY25 updates, aside from a new Reed Green Metallic paint that’s been added to replace the old Mid Blue Metallic.

If you’re planning to use the Amarok for work, a factory alloy tray can be added to the cab-chassis Core, Life and Style variants. The tray is 1900mm long, 1835mm wide, and has an internal length of 1650mm, but costs an extra $4000 over the standard ute body.

The alloy tray, which weighs 132kg, can be replaced by a heavy-duty 243kg steel tray as part of a dealer-fit accessory, with both trays covered by Volkswagen Australia’s five-year unlimited-kilometre new vehicle warranty.

Like before, four engines are available. A 125kW/405Nm 2.0-litre turbo-diesel four-cylinder is offered with a six-speed automatic, while a 154kW/500Nm 2.0-litre twin-turbo-diesel, a 184kW/600Nm 3.0-litre V6 turbo-diesel and a 222kW/452Nm 2.3-litre four-cylinder turbo-petrol all come with a 10-speed automatic.

All versions can tow up to 3500kg and feature a dual-cab body style and come with five seats.

Volkswagen Australia has confirmed its new 2025 Amarok range will be rolled out in the second half of this year.
