Volkswagen celebrates Kombi

Limited-edition Multivan marks Kombi’s 70th birthday

Break out the incence and don the bell-bottoms.

Volkswagen has released a limited-edition version of its latest Multivan people-mover, designed to mark the 70th anniversary of the conception of the vehicle fondly known as the Kombi.

Available from early March and limited to just 120 examples, the ‘Kombi 70’ is based on the entry-level Multivan TDI340 Comfortline DSG ($52,990 plus on-road costs) and priced at $64,990 drive-away.

Extras include 18-inch retro-style ‘Disc’ alloy wheels, wood-effect flooring, Alcantara upholstery, LED headlights with LED DRLs and electric power sliding doors with power latching.

Making Volkswagen’s most iconic model after the Beetle even cooler is a Good Night package comprising fabric blinds, Multiflex board bed extension, washable bed cover, rechargeable mini flashlight and three drawers underneath a three-position bench seat.

All this is wrapped in a two-tone paint finish that can be had in Candy White/Curcuma Yellow, Candy White/Starlight Blue, Candy White/Indium Grey or Indium Grey Metallic/Deep Black.

Volkswagen’s Commercial Vehicles division of utes, vans and people-movers achieved a record 15,688 sales last year – up 14 per cent on 2016.
