Volkswagen Australia has priced its latest T7 Multivan seven-seat people mover for Oz, increasing the entry price by almost $4000 but loading it with more equipment and tech than before.
Due in local showrooms by the second quarter of next year, the 2025 Volkswagen Multivan will launch Down Under in entry-level Life specification, priced from $75,990 before on-road costs in short-wheelbase form, a whopping $25k more than the most affordable Kia Carnival (from $50,150 plus ORCs) people mover it’s set to go head-to-head with.
In short-wheelbase form, the new Multivan is also $3000 more expensive than the diesel-powered equivalent Carnival GT-Line (from $72,910) flagship.
A long wheelbase Multivan Life grade is also available from $78,990 (+$3000), extending the van’s body from 4973mm (SWB) to 5173mm, however, both ride on the same 3124mm wheelbase.
The LWB version is claimed to offer another 20cm of space behind the third row of seating.
Outside, the all-new T7 van brings a sharper design and it now rides on the brand’s modular MQB underpinnings used for the brand’s Golf and Tiguan passenger cars. In other words, it uses more conventional ‘car-like’ architecture rather than Transporter-based commercial van underpinnings of VW's previous T6.1 van.
Under the bonnet is a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo-diesel engine, mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch auto driving the front wheels.
Peak outputs are rated at 110kW/360Nm, representing a 20Nm torque bump over the previous model, while VW claims a combined fuel consumption figure of 6.4 litres per 100km.
The new Multivan is also said to bring greater flexibility inside the cabin, allowing it to be used as a ‘minivan’ to fit longer objects such as a surfboard through the centre of the vehicle, while retaining six seats.
According to VW, each removable seat is said to be 25 per cent lighter than its predecessor, while just about every seat ‘adjusts, rotates and folds’.

VW says it will add an upscale Style trim grade to the Multivan menu next year, which should add more standard equipment, as well as a second, unspecified, powertrain option.
A trio of two-tone paint options will be available in 2025.
