Volkswagen has released a new video that teases the forthcoming T-ROC SUV ahead of its launch at September’s Frankfurt motor show.
Following on from the leak last March, the new video confirms VW's Nissan JUKE rival will indeed come with heavily toned down styling compared to the 2014 Geneva motor show concept.
Sitting beneath the Tiguan in Volkswagen's SUV line-up, the new T-ROC is said to be aimed at Golf buyers who desire a raised height and better practicality but don't fancy a larger SUV.
Featuring squared-off lines and far boxier look compared with the small VW hatch, the small SUV will share parts beneath its butch skin with the Audi Q2.
Based on the same MQB architecture as the Golf, the T-ROC will come with turbocharged 75kW 1.0-litre three-cylinder and 86kW 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol and diesel engines.
A more powerful 1.8-litre turbo-petrol and 1.6-litre turbo-diesel is also likely, while all engines will come with either a six-speed manual or a seven-speed dual-clutch DSG transmission.
There's even rumours Volkswagen is plotting a R version of the T-ROC that will be powered by the Golf R's 228kW turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine.
Only the most powerful engines, like the rumoured R, will come with all-wheel drive but the majority of all cars sold globally will be more likely to come with front-wheel drive.
Set to go on sale towards the end of 2017, the T-ROC is almost certain to be confirmed for Australia, priced below the Tiguan mid-size SUV.
