Volkswagen increases prices by up to $1500

Volkswagen Australia has quietly implemented a raft of price increases for almost every one of its passenger and commercial models.

The increases took effect as of January 1 and range between $240-$1500 depending on the model, with the biggest increases going to select Volkswagen Tiguan and Tiguan Allspace variants.

Starting from the bottom of the range and working our way up, all versions of the pint-size Polo hatchback have risen by $500 – to now start from $25,750 plus on-road costs – while the related T-Cross light SUV has gone up by between $240-$290 and now starts at $30,990 plus ORCs.

The slightly bigger T-Roc small SUV has also increased by $500 across the board – now from $37,100 plus ORCs – but the same can’t be said for the Golf, price hikes for which range between $500-$1000 depending on the grade.

Tiguan and Tiguan Allspace prices now start at $42,490 (+$1100) and $44,490 (+$1200) plus ORCs respectively, whereas the flagship Touareg large SUV range has gone up by $1250 and now opens at $89,240 plus ORCs.

An even grand has been added to the asking price of all Passat variants – pushing its starting price up to $50,790 plus ORCs – while its swoopy coupe-esque stablemate, the Arteon, now starts from $63,990 (+$1250) plus ORCs.

On the commercial side, the Volkswagen Caddy has fared the best with a blanket $500 increase compared to the $800 hikes for the Transporter, Caravelle, Multivan, California and Crafter.
