Volkswagen introduces capped price servicing across the range

Importer is extending the capped price service plan introduced with the up! last year
All passenger cars and SUVs in Volkswagen's local range will be covered by a Capped Price Service Program with effect from March 28.
And the new program is retrospective, with the up! covered since its retail launch in October last year and all other new passenger cars and SUVs eligible, provided they have been purchased through Volkswagen's local dealer network since January 1 this year.
The importer announced the new regime today, addressing one of the sticking points for the brand in this country – the cost of servicing a new Volkswagen through an authorised dealer. Prices will vary according to the vehicle serviced and the nature of the service, ranging from $280 for a 15,000km/12-month service for the up! to $1172 for the Passat V6 FSI's 60,000km/48-month service.
Volkswagen claims that the six-year/90,000km capped price service program is "one of the longest coverage periods in the market," and includes "replacement of oil filters, engine oil and sump plug washer" over the course of the period. In addition air filters are replaced twice (45,000 and 90,000km) and spark plugs are changed at 60,000km.
Capped price servicing, or fixed-price servicing, as it is also known, is becoming increasingly popular in Australia. Importers introduced it first, but even local manufacturers have caught the habit, with Toyota Service Advantage the first to market, followed more recently by Holden, with its HoldenWise program
The GM brand is on a roll with its service-related marketing, recently offering to match non-dealer service prices quoted for a standard service and now the company is promising free servicing over a three-year period. But as they say in the classics, it's for a limited time only and owners of Commodore, Cruze, Barina, Captiva and Colorado will need to tee up the deal before April 30.
