Toyota has given us its best look yet at the forthcoming Toyota GR Yaris with the release of a new video of its turbocharged all-wheel drive hot hatch being tested on dirt.
As part of the short film, you'll hear first impressions from the factory WRC drivers Ott Tanak, Kris Meeke, Jari-Matti Latvala and team principal Tommi Makinen.
It's already been revealed that the Toyota GR Yaris will come with all-wheel drive and, as this video demonstrates, the little Toyota will be seriously quick -- at least in the hands of professional rally drivers.
It will also look the part when the Japanese car-maker finally peels off the camouflage in January because, even wrapped, it's possible to make out its wide front and rear fenders and aero aids.
Interestingly, the Toyota GR Yaris will be available in a three-door body style fitted with cool frameless doors.
Under the bonnet, we expect the little rally refugee to come with at least 200kW for the road-going version.
Beneath the skin, Toyota has already let slip that its hottest ever Yaris will come with a sophisticated multi-link suspension not available on the normal hatch.
Unlike the previous-generation limited-edition Yaris GRMN hot hatch that paved the way for the GR Yaris, Toyota says it has committed to making an incredible 25,000 examples of its latest hot hatch in a single year.
When it goes on sale next year, the Toyota GR Yaris will certainly be among the most extreme hot hatches on sale. Pricing in the UK has been tipped to kick off at around £30,000 ($A57,000), but there’s no word on how much it will cost when it lands Down Under late next year.
Stay tuned for our first drive of the Yaris GR-4 prototype this Friday evening before all is revealed on January 10, when Toyota pulls the drapes off the GR Yaris at the Tokyo Auto Salon.
