Images of a completely undisguised Mercedes-AMG GT R Black Series have surfaced on Instagram months before you're supposed to see them.
The pictures, uploaded by Instagram user race365, give us our first glimpse of the flagship AMG GT R, although heavily camouflaged mules were spotted testing at the Nurburgring back in late March.
Following in the tyre tracks of the equally unhinged SLS Black Series, Mercedes-AMG's latest creation features a complete rethink on the AMG GT R's aerodynamics package.
In comes an even larger front grille, new splitter and an interesting C-shaped antidive-plane that's thought to reduce lift over the front axle.
Along the side of the car there's a large skirt with air blades to channel air around the wheel-arches towards the back of the car, where there's a larger rear diffuser and an enormous bi-plane adjustable rear wing.
As well as maximising downforce, the track-suited Black Series also features enhanced cooling.
Note too the dramatic vents on what looks like a full carbon-fibre bonnet and the wider front fenders that feature large extractors.
There's no official confirmation on how much power the AMG GT Black Series will pack, but the rumour is its twin-turbocharged 4.0-litre V8 will produce at least 530kW and a muscular 850Nm of torque – a decent step up from the 430kW/680Nm the AMG GT PRO produces.
Like every other AMG GT, the Black Series will channel all its might to the rear wheels via a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic rear transaxle.
Healthy weight-saving is also expected. It's too early to guess how much quicker the Black Series will be against the clock, but it's thought it should be able to hit 100km/h in around three seconds – 0.6sec quicker than the AMG GT PRO – and top out at around 340km/h.
To cope with the step up in performance, AMG is expected to have given the Black Series significant chassis revisions, some of which might be borrowed from the AMG GT GT3 race car.
Since the AMG GT Black Series is expected to have such a heavy track bias, some are suggesting Mercedes-AMG might be tempted to have a crack at the outright production car record at the Nurburging.
If so, it will have to beat the 6:44.97 time set by the Lamborghini Aventador SVJ.
It's thought Mercedes-AMG will officially unveil the Black Series as soon as next month.
