They offer abundant comfort and convenience features, in addition to highly advanced safety and driver-assist technology.
Popular Luxury Sedans (#)
1. Mercedes-Benz S-Class
As the standard bearer for comfort, refinement and quality, the Mercedes-Benz S-Class has pioneered new technology that has subsequently trickled down to smaller models in the range, but its standing has diminished as buyers have deserted passenger cars - especially larger passenger cars - for SUVs. The manufacturer first labelled its flagship passenger cars 'S-Class' back in the 1970s, with the introduction of the W116 series. Since then, there have been five generations of Mercedes-Benz S-Class released in Australia, with the current range also comprising convertibles and coupes complementing the large sedans.

With a pedigree for top-level luxury, the Audi A6 large sedan and wagon have been making Aussie drivers feel special since 1997. Launched in Europe in 1994, the car has evolved through five generations to perfect the art of blending luxury, technology and style. Priced between around $85,000 and $116,000, the Audi A6 is offered with a range of engine types, petrol, diesel, hybrid and even a crazy 400kW-plus RS 6 wagon. Rivals for the Audi A6 include long-standing luxury flagbearers, the BMW 5 Series and Mercedes-Benz E-Class.

The 5 Series is one of BMW's longest-running nameplates, and continues to play an important role for the Bavarian brand even amid soaring popularity for SUVs. The BMW 5 Series first emerged in 1972 as a sedan body style only. It was joined by a 5 Series Touring (BMW speak for wagon or estate) in 1991, along with a slow-selling 5 Series Gran Turismo or GT between 2009 and 2017. Since the E28-generation BMW 5 Series from the 1980s, the sedan has also laid the foundations for a fettled M5 variant. Today, the seventh-generation 5 Series continues as a technology, safety and performance torchbearer at BMW, and is available in petrol, diesel and hybrid grades.
