4x2 Tradie Cars
A 4x2 tradie vehicle is a commercial vehicle usually a pick-up or cab-chassis model rated for payloads of between 750kg and 1.0 tonnes. These vehicles are typically rear-wheel drive only, and are not designed for off-road work, although they can tow trailers, if necessary. They are workhorses chosen for low ownership costs, durability, acceptable performance when loaded, reasonable comfort and adequate crash safety. Most one-tonne models are manufactured in Thailand or Japan for the Australian market.

1. Ford Ranger
The Ranger is Ford Australia's showroom darling, having commanded the lion's share of blue oval sales since the closure of Ford's local manufacturing operations in 2015. The dominance of the Ford Ranger should be of little surprise, since it was designed and engineered at Ford's Victorian global engineering outpost. The current model has been on sale since 2011 and last underwent a facelift in 2015. There are three body styles - Single cab, Super Cab and Double Cab - and as ever the Ranger is sold with a choice of 3.2-litre turbo-diesel five-cylinder and 2.0-litre turbo-diesel four-cylinder powertrains, the latter installed in the flagship Ranger Raptor. A new Ford Ranger is due out in 2022.

Born in 1978, the Mitsubishi Triton has worn many names in many countries, from the boring (Mitsubishi L200) to the bizarre (Mitsubishi Mighty Max). In Australia the Mitsubishi Triton goes toe to toe with rivals like the Toyota HiLux, Ford Ranger and Isuzu D-MAX.

Nissan has built compact pick-up trucks, some under the Datsun moniker, for decades, but it wasn't until the mid 1980s that the Navara nameplate was used in some markets including Australia. Initially aimed at commercial and rural buyers, the Nissan Navara has been available in a range of variants including with single, space and dual-cab bodies, rear-drive and four wheel drive, turbo-diesel or petrol engines, and manual or automatic transmisisons. Recently, Nissan Navara 'tough truck' models including the Australian-developed Nissan Navara N-Trek Warrior with its enhanced off-road performance have increasingly target family and recreational buyers.
