1.4-litre Q3 for Oz?
Audi introduces small-displacement petrol model to the Q3 SUV rangeA new variant joining Audi's Q3 range will move the compact luxury SUV's entry-level price point further downmarket.
The 1.4-litre TFSI petrol engine in the new Q3 model will undercut the current base model 2.0 TDI, according to an Audi press release issued out of Europe earlier this week. Available in front-wheel drive configuration only, the new 1.4-litre Q3 will be sold in both six-speed manual or seven-speed S tronic (dual-clutch) form.
According to the manufacturer, the new engine produces 110kW and 250Nm. Fuel consumption, as per the NEDC combined-cycle test, is 5.9L/100km and CO2 emissions are rated at 137g/km in the same test for the S tronic variant. Manual models will knock over the 0-100km/h sprint in 9.2 seconds, with S tronic versions reaching the same speed in 8.9 seconds.
In Europe the new Q3 will be sold in SE and S Line levels of trim, with the cheapest variant, the manual SE, starting from £23,870. Conversion from GBP to the Aussie dollar arrives at a price of around $45,200, but the 1.4-litre Q3 may end up even more affordable in the local market, assuming it comes here.
For the moment, Audi Australia is keeping its powder dry, but based on its history of bringing in niche variants to fill out the range, it's likely the 1.4 will make it here; and presumably sooner rather than later.
