The 2019 Toyota Supra will arrive with 250kW, 450Nm and 0-100km/h time of 3.8 seconds. And it will look like this.
That’s the word from Japanese magazine Best Car, which has boldly lifted the lid on what it claims to be Toyota’s new hero car.
Along with publishing purported performance figures, the magazine also went ahead and publishing images of the next-gen Supra, blending elements of various test mules and Toyota’s FT-1 Concept from 2014.
If the leak is to be believed, the re-born Supra will measure 4380mm long, 1855mm wide and 1290mm tall with a 2470mm wheelbase. For reference those dimensions are considerably smaller than the predecessor, and pitch the Supra closer in size to a Lotus than a Porsche 911.
At 1496kg, the Supra is 14kg lighter than the car it replaces, last offered in Australia in the nineties.
The Supra is due to be shown in full at next month’s Geneva motor show, alongside a motorsport-themed concept.
According to the magazine, the Supra’s 3.0-litre six-cylinder engine will make 250kW at 5500rpm and 450Nm at 1380-5200rpm. It will send drive to the rear wheels via an eight-speed torque converter automatic – both BMW-sourced and shared with the 2019 BMW Z4.
The Supra and Z4 are based on a common carbon-fibre architecture.
Toyota has declined to comment on the latest leak, which follow revelations of power figures leaked earlier this month.
For its part the Japanese manufacturer has revealed a lone teaser image of what it will show off in Geneva.
In addition to the 3.0-litre, a smaller, less powerful 147kW/185kW version of a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder will also be offered, but it’s not known if that car will also only come with the eight-speed auto.
