Toyota has become the latest victim of a leak following an image of the hotly-anticipated all-new 2020 Toyota Supra going viral overnight.
First to post the single photo of a completely undisguised fifth-generation Toyota Supra was a user on fan site
who managed to snap the all-new coupe in transit in the back of a truck.Despite only managing to capture one picture, the image reveals plenty and shows how the car-maker has evolved the original FT-1 concept into the production Toyota Supra.
Keeping its show car's prominent snout and striking headlamps, the first pic of the A90 Supra suggests the front bumper and air intakes have been completely redesigned.
Now featuring three large air intakes, flanked by two slimline vertical extractor vents below the headlamps, it appears like careful air management has dominated the final design.
Further back, the front clamshell bonnet carries over but has been toned down. However, making up for that the show car's double bubble roof carries over.
Set to be officially revealed on January 14 at the Detroit motor show, much is already known about Toyota's flagship sportscar.
We've even driven a prototype version in Europe.
The headline news is the fifth-gen Supra -- codenamed the A90 -- was developed in conjunction with the BMW Z4.
That explains why under the bonnet it features a BMW-sourced turbocharged 3.0-litre inline six-cylinder engine that produces in excess of 220kW and 450Nm of torque.
It's also seriously fast.
Against the clock the new Supra is on target to reach 100km/h, from standstill, in less than five seconds and exceed 260km/h.
Initially, all models are offered with an eight-speed ZF automatic transmission. A manual may be offered later.
Later on from launch, the powerful six-cylinder will be joined by a turbocharged four-cylinder engine, also expected to be borrowed from BMW.
Weighing in at around 1500kg, engineers have been careful to optimise the weight distribution to around 50:50 for agile and well-balanced handling.
Already seen testing at the Nurburgring, pricing and local market specification will be announced following its reveal at the 2019 Detroit motor show in January.
Deliveries are set to begin in Australia in the third quarter of 2019.
