2024 INEOS Grenadier Quartermaster ute debuts

All-new hard-core dual-cab 4x4 pick-up unwrapped at the Goodwood Festival of Speed

The 2024 INEOS Grenadier Quartermaster has been officially revealed at the Goodwood Festival of Speed today, ahead of the all-new dual-cab 4x4 ute’s Australian release in 2024 with a starting price of $110,000 plus on-road costs.

Created as a direct rival to the sold-out Toyota LandCruiser 70 Series and looking a lot like the rugged original Land Rover Defender, the INEOS Grenadier Quartermaster is claimed to offer nothing short of world-class off-road capability.

Based on the existing Grenadier Station Wagon, the new Quartermaster sits on the same rigid ladder-frame chassis although it’s been extended by 305mm to accommodate the rear tray.

Measuring 1564mm long and 1619mm wide, the pick-up bed is said to be large enough to accommodate a Euro-sized pallet with room to spare.

The bad news is that payload falls short of the 1000kg offered by many popular utes in Australia, at 832kg for the diesel and 907kg for the petrol, although like its wagon sibling the INEOS pick-up can tow up to 3500kg.

Boosting practicality, there are four tie-down rings and the option of Utility Rails, plus a 400W power outlet and a tailgate that can support up to 225kg.

Like the Station Wagon, the INEOS Grenadier Quartermaster comes with either a BMW N58-series 3.0-litre inline six-cylinder turbo-petrol engine that makes 210kW/450Nm, or a BMW B57-series 3.0-litre inline six-cylinder turbo-diesel that packs 183kW/550Nm.

Performance is identical to the Station Wagon, with the petrol pick-up claimed to hit 100km/h in 8.8 seconds and the turbo-diesel 9.8sec.

Both engines are matched as standard with a ZF eight-speed automatic transmission and permanent four-wheel drive with low-range ratios, alongside live axles front and rear.

That means the Grenadier Quartermaster should be among the most capable 4x4 utes off-road, with INEOS claiming its second model offers a respectable 264mm of ground clearance (20 per cent more than an LC70) and a wading depth of 800mm.

Approach, breakover and departure angles are yet to be revealed, but are said to be unrivalled by any other production pick-up.

Inside, the Grenadier Quartermaster offers seating for five people and it’s cabin layout and components are all but identical to that of the regular Grenadier.

As per the Station Wagon, the INEOS Grenadier Quartermaster will be available with a whole range of accessories, also including a frame and waterproof canvas cover for the cargo area, a lockable tonneau cover and a larger roof rack to boost carrying capacity and accommodate jerry cans, sand ladders and shovels for adventures.

No official release timing has been confirmed for the Australian market, but the Grenadier Quartermaster will be priced from $110,000 plus ORCs in entry-level form with either petrol or diesel power.

Spend $123,000 plus ORCs and you get the Quartermaster Trialmaster Edition, which throws in the Rough Pack (including front and rear differentials and all-terrain tyres) and the Smooth Pack, which adds park assist, heated mirrors, puddle lamps and a lockable stowage box, among other extras.

Finally, the Quartermaster Fieldmaster is priced from $123,000 plus ORCs and misses out on the Rough Pack but gains 18-inch alloy wheels, bump strips, Safari windows, leather seat trim and a premium sound system.

The Australian order book for the Grenadier Quartermaster opens today (July 13).
