2024 INEOS Grenadier Quartermaster ute teased

INEOS to debut all-new Grenadier dual-cab 4x4 ute and hydrogen fuel-cell tech at next month’s Goodwood Festival of Speed

The 2024 INEOS Grenadier Quartermaster has been officially teased for the first time ahead of its global public premiere at the Goodwood Festival of Speed on July 13, when the British off-road vehicle maker will also demonstrate its future hydrogen fuel-cell technology.

Apart from announcing the Quartermaster name for the dual-cab ute version of its go-anywhere Grenadier off-roader, INEOS Automotive revealed a single teaser image of the pick-up’s rear-end, which bears the new model’s nameplate on its tailgate rather than ‘Grenadier’ as seen in previous spy shots.

INEOS confirmed it will produce a twin-cab ute version of its original Land Rover Defender-channeling Grenadier off-road SUV – a direct rival for the sold-out Toyota LandCruiser 70 Series – as long ago as 2021 (when it also released the rendering below and confirmed the ute for Australia), as well as fuel-cell powertrain technology for its growing hard-core off-roader range.

The first evidence of the latter will come in the form of the Grenadier Hydrogen Fuel Cell (FCEV) Technology Demonstrator at Goodwood, where both the Quartermaster and the FCEV demonstrator will appear in the ‘First Glance Paddock’ and take on the historic hillclimb course over all four days of the event.

No new information was announced for either vehicle, but INEOS has signed an FCEV technology agreement with Hyundai (although the Korean auto giant’s fuel-cell tech may not power the Grenadier or Quartermaster) and INEOS says its first FCEV prototype will “show how well-suited the zero-emissions technology is for a future long-range 4x4 off-roader”.

Meantime the Quartermaster, which was spied uncamouflaged in Austria earlier this year (below), will employ a stretched version of the Grenadier’s ladder-frame platform and is expected to be available with the same BMW-sourced inline-six turbocharged petrol and diesel engines.

It will also match the 1000kg payload and 3500kg towing capacities of both its wagon sibling and the most popular utes in Australia – including the Ford Ranger and Toyota HiLux and LandCruiser 79 Series – where the Quartermaster is due on sale by the end of this year.

Australia will be a key market for both INEOS off-roaders and the Quartermaster is expected to be cheaper than the Grenadier, meaning the hay-hauler’s starting price should be well under $100,000.

While first Australian deliveries of the Grenadier have been pushed back from April to June due to local shipping delays, INEOS says it’s on target to release its third model – an all-new small electric off-roader based on a different platform – in 2026.
