The 2025 Volkswagen Amarok 10 Deserts Edition has been revealed ahead of its arrival in the second quarter of next year.
Kitted out with all-terrain wheels and tyres, a lift kit, heavy-duty underbody protection and special decals, the limited-run ute has been built to honour the Amarok’s recent achievement of crossing Australia’s 10 deserts in six days and 17 hours – a new Guiness World Record.
Volkswagen Australia hasn’t confirmed pricing just yet but has revealed the Desert Edition will live between the Amarok Life TDI500 ($59,490 plus on-roads) and Style TDI500 ($69,740 plus ORCs) in the local Amarok ute line-up.
The Life TDI500 was actually the basis for the rugged creation, meaning the special edition misses out on the 184kW/600Nm 3.0-litre turbo-diesel V6 fitted to the record-setting vehicle, instead coming with the lesser 150kW/500Nm 2.0-litre bi-turbo four.
Headlining the ensemble is a 40mm suspension lift (garnering 275mm ground clearance), heavier duty underbody armour, black 17-inch alloy wheels, Continental CrossContact all-terrain rubber, a black tonneau cover and commemorative ‘10 Deserts Edition’ badging.
The toughened-up offering will only be offered in the same white paint as the record-setting vehicle, with no other hues available, and square-off primarily against the Nissan Navara SL Warrior as a cut-price, go-anywhere adventure rig.
A crew of three – German endurance driver Rainer Zietlow, co-driver Marius Biela and Australia’s Brad Bowman – set the new record in a modified Amarok Style TDI600 which only suffered a single puncture on the week-long journey and used 1199 litres of diesel, equating to 18.7L/100km.
For anyone not familiar with Australia’s 10 deserts, they comprise the Great Victoria, Great Sandy, Tanami, Simpson, Gibson, Little Sandy, Strzelecki, Sturt Stony, Tirari and Pedirka.
Coinciding with the record and subsequent release of the Volkswagen Amarok 10 Deserts Edition, Volkswagen Australia also recently announced it is celebrating the delivery of the 100,000th Amarok ute Down Under, with the German car-maker racking up the impressive milestone after 14 years of sales.
