Audi releases new teasers for Q8 SUV

Audi has made a five-part mini YouTube series to tease its Q8 ahead of the car's launch at the Audi China Brand Summit on June 6.

Claimed to be both "thrilling" and "gripping", the first three episodes created by the German car maker have so far only provided a tiny glimpse of the Q8 in each three minute instalment.

In the final few frames of the third episode we get our clearest look of a darkened image of a head-on shot of the Q8 that looks indistinguishable from both the 2017 Detroit show car and the 2017 Q8 Sport Geneva motor show concept that followed.

That car measured in at an imposing 5020mm long and came with a 350kW hybrid powertrain that provided for both a 1200km range and a 0-100km/h time of just 4.7 seconds.

Set to sit on the longest version of the MLB Evo architecture, the Q8 will come with the same 2.99-metre wheelbase as its closely-related Q7.

Around 30mm shorter than the seven-seat Q7, the Q8 will be 70mm wider and 40mm lower, with a rakish, coupe-like rear.

With a front design dominated by a squashed octagon shape, the Audi SUV will come with the brand's widest grille yet, flanked by a pair of large honeycomb intakes and a lower strip air vent.

In the final video, it's clear the Q8 will also bag Audi's Matrix Laser system that Audi claims can double as a movie projector for your garage wall (sadly not demonstrated).

The new lighting tech is claimed to be a huge advance on previous Xenon and LED Matrix systems as it can black out a fraction of the million pixels available, with the ability to light up a pedestrian without blinding their eyes.

Inside, buttons and switches and conventional rotary dials will be sacrificed for touch-screens, gesture control and a head-up display that uses augmented technology to blend the virtual and real worlds.

This could work by overlaying directional arrows onto a live feed of the road ahead to tell you precisely what lane you should be in.

The same system will also be capable of highlighting dangers ahead, even using virtual arrows to draw your eye to pedestrians or animals wandering into your path.

Featuring four frameless doors that are set for production, Audi is expected to introduce an auto open and close feature that operates without touch.
