Last year it was revealed Audi was considering a dedicated Mercedes-Benz G-Class and Range Rover rival offering genuine off-road capability and flagship levels of luxury. Then in March of this year, it was confirmed discussions were still ongoing. So now, following the release of the Nuvolari supercar, the internet has imagined what Audi’s halo 4x4 SUV will look like.

When the Concept C electric sports car debuted in September, it was representant of Audi’s future design language – as well as an eventual production model – which was adopted by the limited-build Nuvolari some nine months later.
It stands to reason then the ‘Bauhaus’ design language will be applied to the upcoming G-Class rival, especially since it’s based around straight lines and harsh contours – just like the G-Class.
The resulting boxy renders out of Europe thereby make for an interesting viewing experience to say the least.

Digital creators have taken what looks to be the body shell of a Lexus GX and grafted the Nuvolari’s face onto it with the obligatory pseudo-skid plate lower bumper element below.
Adding to the rugged look is a generous ride height, aggressive all-terrain tyres and a chunky machine-face alloy wheel design that complements the Nuvolari-style tail-light clusters.
A spare wheel can be seen hanging from the centre of the tailgate in one of the speculative images for added effect.

Having been told to sit tight twice now, it should only be a matter of time before Audi officially announces the 4x4 project or reveals a near-production concept, at which point the biggest questions will revolve around the powertrains and outright performance.
The upcoming Scout Traveler SUV and Terra ute will ride on a dedicated ladder-frame platform with locking front and rear differentials and dual electric motors to provide full-time?4x4.
“If we do something like that… it is only thinkable to do it on a platform that is already there,” Audi CEO Gernot Dollner told carsales in March.
Battery-electric and range-extender hybrid powertrains have also been confirmed for the Scouts.
