AMG’s chief Tobias Moers has confirmed AMG will begin making flagship Black Series versions of Mercedes AMG models.
Making the revelation in an interview with British car magazine, Autocar, Moers refused to reveal what future AMG models will get the full Black Series Treatment.
“The Black Series name stays,” said Moers. “It will be necessary in the future, but for now the base cars are so good. The Black Series must be at the top of the hill, but I don’t know when or on what model yet.”
In the interview Moers also revealed AMG was also developing a new hybrid powertrain that could appear in a future AMG model.
“We will need hybrid applications in the future and we have done research for hybrids for AMG. We can offer performance and efficiency and will be able to find solutions.” Moers told Autocar.
Sadly, Moers has consistently ruled out a replacement for the SLS supercar. Instead, the Porsche 911-rivalling AMG GT is likely next in-line for a faster, more track-focused version, possibly, inspired by the AMG GT3 racer that was revealed at the Geneva motor show last week.
If made the AMG GT GT3-version could be on sale as soon as next year in Europe.
