Mitsubishi will not replace the 380 with an imported large car in the short term. However, an up-market Lancer could service displaced 380 customers, says Mitsubishi Australia boss, Rob McEniry
The local Mitsu boss confirmed a 2.4-litre "luxury version" of the Lancer would be one of seven new models the company would introduce Down Under in 2008 when questioned by The Carsales Network today.
"I know [the new Lancer model] is not a direct fill [for the 380] but it is a car where many of the [large car] buyers are going, so it will fill an important role for us," he said.
McEniry rejected any suggestions Mitsubishi had left the local large car marketplace permanently, however.
"We don't have a direct replacement [for the 380] now but I guess if you've been following some of the concept cars that Mitsubishi has been showing at the recent [international] motor shows you'd have some insight into what may be available in that [large car] area," he opined.
The car McEniry is referring to is Mitsubishi's Concept-ZT (pictured). The company unveiled the Audi-esque premium sedan concept at last October's Tokyo Motor Show. At that time the car was heralded as the replacement for the 380 by some Australian media outlets.
