BMW 6 Series GT leaked ahead of Frankfurt debut

6 Series Gran Turismo set to replace 5 GT revealed online before official unveil

Images of BMW's all-new 6 Series Gran Turismo have appeared online ahead of its official reveal at the Frankfurt Motor Show this September.

Revealed in full on Russian car blog iwheelage.org the new 6 GT, despite its name, is a direct replacement for the current 5 Series Gran Turismo.

From our first glance at the luxury large hatch it's clear the 6 GT boasts a sleeker profile and ditches its predecessor's ugly, bulbous looks.

Already spotted testing in Germany, much is already known about the more spacious version of the 5 Series.

Underneath is BMW's new 'OKL' platform which is claimed to deliver a 100kg weight-saving over the 5 Series GT.

The same lightweight structure will also underpin the next-gen 3 Series and is reported to be significantly stiffer than the previous platform.

Notwithstanding the new association with the 6 Series, the 6 GT will major in space, especially in the rear where passengers will enjoy far more legroom and headroom than conventional 5 Series derivatives.

While the leaked pictures don't include the interior, it's thought the BMW 6 Series Gran Turismo will share most aspects of the excellent connectivity and infotainment system in the latest 5 Series and is likely to feature gesture control.

Under the bonnet, the 6 GT will feature a punchy 250kW turbocharged six-cylinder petrol engine (for the 640i GT), and a 185kW turbocharged four-cylinder petrol powerplant, plus the four-cylinder and six-cylinder diesel engines from the 5 Series.
