BMW and MINI Aussie invasion intensifies
Aussie BMW and MINI fans have a lot to look forward toBMW will continue its “thick and fast” approach to model roll outs over the next nine months with a suite of updated and all-new vehicles slated for local release.
In addition to the recently released X6 M50d and 6 Series GranCoupe, Australia will also receive new engine variants in the 5 Series GT range from October. The model tweak will see 530 GT gain an increase in power to 190kW, while also sharpening its fuel consumption figure. As well, a new entry-level model will join the 5 Series GT range: 520i GT.
In what’s looking like a busy month for the Bavarian brand it will also release the facelifted X1 in October. The model will adopt updated drivetrains, the marque's lauded eight-speed automatic transmission, new interior trim and revised styling both inside and out.
The M135i five-door hatch will arrive later in 2012 (slated for late October / early November) alongside limited numbers of the new ActiveHybrid 3 (which will arrive in greater numbers from Q1, 2013) and the updated 7 Series range. The latter will receive an updated drivetrain line-up, eight-speed automatic transmission, and new ConnectedDrive features.
BMW will also soon unveil its larger ActiveHybrid models Down Under. The ActiveHybrid 5 is likely to debut near the end of the third quarter. The ActiveHybrid 7 limousine will hit local roads in the first quarter of the new year (2013), around the same time the recently released 3 Series Touring is set to arrive Down Under.
BMW's sub-brand MINIis also set to receive a quartet of newcomers before Q1 2013. In November, MINI Countryman John Cooper Works will land in Oz, packing 160kW and a suite of suspension and exhaust tuning to boot. At the same time, a three-door version of the high-riding SUV-style model will go on sale in Europe.
More MINI Coupe and Roadster variants will arrive in September, too, while in time for next year’s Melbourne Grand Prix will come the MINI John Cooper Works (R56) Grand Prix Edition...
And let’s not forget Paris. Slated to make its debut at the Paris Motor Show in late September is BMW’s newest family member, the 2 Series. No news yet on exactly when the front-drive city car will arrive in Australia.
