BMW XM reveal locked in for September 28
Bavarian brand’s new flagship will make first contact within a fortnightThe first bespoke BMW M model in 45 years will be introduced to the world on the morning of September 28, with BMW USA confirming the date and time of the 2023 BMW XM’s global reveal via a 25-second YouTube video.
The entirely CGI clip once again teases the XM’s unique front lighting signature and previews the rather muted rumble of its plug-in hybrid twin-turbo 4.4-litre V8 powertrain before revealing the ‘6:01 EST 9.27.2022’ reveal timing, which equates to 8:01am AEST on September 28 for us.
We don’t know yet if the flagship performance SUV’s reveal will be livestreamed or not, but the safe money is on this not being the case – despite the months of teasers, preview drives and hype-building.
The BMW XM was first revealed in concept form in November last year, when it was revealed the Bentley Bentayga-baiting Bavarian SUV would come armed with 1000Nm of torque and offer an all-electric driving range of 80km.
Peak power is nominated at 550kW, meaning it will be significantly more powerful than any of the established super-SUVs like the Lamborghini Urus, Porsche Cayenne GT Turbo, Aston Martin DBX707 and even the freshly-revealed Ferrari Purosangue.
No official performance figures have been quoted yet, but BMW has long promised a 0-100km/h time somewhere in the three-second range and a top speed north of 300km/h.
This monstrous new powertrain is also slated to make its way into the next-generation BMW M5, in which it will reportedly develop even more power and torque.
We got a glimpse of what the production XM will look like earlier this month when the road-approved design was discovered within the Japanese intellectual property database, which revealed some of the concept’s more extreme design cues had been toned down somewhat.
The clock is now well and truly ticking down to the reveal of what will be the indisputable flagship of the BMW range and we’ll be sure to bring you our full reveal coverage ASAP.
