The 2025 BMW XM by Kith special edition has been unveiled and just one of the 47 units set for production is heading to Australia.
The ultra-limited special edition BMW XM is said to be the work of the New York-based fashion and lifestyle brand Kith and, appropriately, the customised hybrid SUV was unwrapped at this week’s Miami Art week.
Said to be third car designed by Kith’s founder Ronnie Fieg, the 47 special XMs are said to celebrate the 47 years since the launch of the 1978 BMW M1.
Painted in BMW Individual Frozen Techno Violet metallic paint based on an original 1970s BMW hue, the new finish was co-developed by Kith, with the Bavarian brand promising to never use the colour again, making the limited-run XMs extra special.
If purple’s not your shade, BMW Individual Frozen Black metallic will also be available.
Extra Kith features include black side window graphics and accent strips, a subtle outline of the model inscriptions, the Kith logo and M stripes.
The special XM also sits a on a set of huge 23-inch M light-alloy wheels finished in Jet Black.
Inside the cabin, the Kith-specified SUV gets illuminated door sills with a 1/47 inscription and the Kith logo with BMW M stripes.
The same BMW M-Kith logo is used and illuminated on the front headrests of the Merino leather seats that also are embossed with a Kith designed monogram.
In the rear there are yet more embossed Kith monograms as well as a pair of Kith-branded cushions, plus purple ambient lighting to match the exterior paint.
The link drawn between the BMW M1 and XM by Kith is relevant because the seventies supercar is claimed to be BMW M’s first bespoke car, while the XM is the second.
The launch of the BMW XM By Kith will be accompanied by a range of BMW By Kith lifestyle products, including an exclusive duffle bag for the charging cables.
The XM By Kith follows on from a similar collaboration between the two brands that spun-off special versions of the M4 Competition (2020) and i4 M50 (2022).
Under the bonnet, the plug-in hybrid BMW SUV’s twin-turbocharged 4.4-litre V8 powertrain carries over unchanged, which means it still produces a herculean 550kW of power and 1000Nm of torque.
BMW Australia has not yet confirmed if the single unit headed to our shores has been spoken for, but it’s expected to have already been snapped up for an undisclosed premium over the $302,200 (plus on-roads) charged for the standard version.
