Famous for its Camaro muscle cars and Corvette sports cars, Chevrolet has never seen vehicle design as a stumbling block. Case in point, this life-sized LEGO Batmobile.
Built in collaboration with several partners, including Detroit's Cody Rouge community, the vehicle made its debut at the 2017 Detroit motor show over the weekend.
According to the official Chevrolet.com website, the LEGO Batman's life-sized Gotham City runabout costs $48,000,000, can tow 54,400kg (120,000 pounds) and has 4G WiFi connectivity. It also features native Apple CarPlay.
The two-seater machine has more than 50 safety features, including bullet-proof body panels and comes with a handy-dandy 10-year warranty. Cop that Kia!
Measuring 5.18 metres long and a whopping 2.8 metres wide, the vehicle may find tight city alleyways a bit of squeeze, but considering it's powered by a 60.2-litre V100 engine (we're not sure if the decimal point has been erroneously moved!) the show-stopper shouldn't have too much trouble making a rapid getaway.
It pumps out 10,100Nm at just 9000rpm from its 100-cylinder engine yet weighs just 770kg -- about as light as a Lotus Elise.
The Batmobile is weaponised – perfect for road ragers – and comes with three driver select functions: racing, monster truck, and parallel parking mode. Unlike this LEGO car, however, the Batmobile is undrivable. Drat.
Created to co-inside with The LEGO Batman Movie, the LEGO Batmobile took 222 hours to design and a mind-boggling 1833 hours to build.
Almost 800kg of LEGO isn't going to hold itself together, therefore a frame was constructed from aluminium tubing and in total.
It was pieced together around the frame by LEGO's Master Builders, and 344,187 LEGO pieces were used to build it.
Imagine how many instruction pages that amounts to?
Naturally there will be a regular-sized LEGO Batmobile toy for fans of the movie that doesn't quite have the complexity of this fantastic creation.
Chevy says the vehicle will also be used in advertising campaigns for the car brand in the USA.
