So, your CLS 55 AMG and CLK 55 isn't up to the local traffic light GP. They're a bit lacking in the horsepower department and you reckon you need a bit more grunt... Better get down to your Mercedes-Benz dealer quick smart and sign on the dotted for one of these beauties.
Set to debut at this month's Geneva show, the latest versions of the AMG-fettled CLS and CLK models get the German marque's new monster V8. In its various guises the 6.3-litre engine develops up to a whopping 378kW -- says Benz, the highest specific power (and torque) of any naturally-aspirated eight-cylinder production engine in the world
It is 500hp-plus this mega mill that graces the new CLS 63 AMG. The so-called four-door coupé has a 0-100km/h time of just 4.5sec on its way to a governed top speed of 250km/h. Ungoverned it's rumoured the slippery four-seater could nudge the double-ton!
Meantime the CLK 63 AMG Coupé and Cabriolet get another version of the big bent eight -- this one with a meagre 354kW and 630Nm. Yet another version of the engine -- this time with 375kW -- is set to be mated to the AWD drivetrain of the R 63 AMG --although it's unclear whether the production version will be at Geneva.
On the subject of the six-seater R-Class, Mercedes won't like the moniker, but we're prepared to go on record and crown the R 63 as the world's fastest and quickest people mover! Until Honda puts an F1 engine in an Odyssey, that is...
Of course, none of the above mentioned cars are going to be cheap, but they will all be coming Down Under -- eventually...
We're not sure what's in the water in Stuggart, but we wish they'd send some to CarPoint HQ. ;)
