New images of the wild pure-electric MG Cyberster have been released online ahead of its unveiling on March 31.
Giving us our best look yet at the Chinese-owned brand's sporting flagship, the 2021 MG Cyberster apes the traditional front-engine, rear-wheel drive proportions that the original MGB (1968-1980) possessed.
Believed to have been designed in parent company SAIC's London-based design studio, the sports car's long low nose and angular features make for a striking shape.
The twin rear flying buttresses, central spline and aggressive front splitter and air dam suggests trick aerodynamics honed for outright performance.
Set to preview a production model, when the MG Cyberster eventually goes on sale it could go head-to-head with the future pure-electric Porsche Boxster – if the German car-maker commits to electric power for its next generation of roadster and coupe.
There's no official word on how much power the Cyberster will produce, but it's expected to pack twin electric motors that will see the roofless MG hit 100km/h in less than 3.0 seconds.
A larger, energy-dense power pack, meanwhile, has been tipped to provide the Cyberster with a potential range of up to 800km.
MG has been plotting a flagship sportscar for some time. Back in 2017 it revealed the MG E-Motion – an all-wheel drive dual-motor concept that could cover 500km between charges and hit 100km/h in less than 4.0 seconds.
The E-Motion powertrain has been ruled out for the Cyberster, but it will use the same modular architecture that made its debut under the electric MG sports car.
As well as packing huge power and an impressive range, the MG's halo sports car will also come with 5G connectivity and the car-maker's latest semi-autonomous driving aids.
