GENEVA MOTOR SHOW: Mercedes-Benz SL-Class 417 Mille Miglia

Mercedes-Benz has revealed its SL-Class 417 Mille Miglia special edition ahead of the Geneva motor show.

The '417' part of the title is inspired by the race number worn by Sterling Moss during his class win at the Mille Miglia in 1955. Moss' Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR was a far cry from the luxury on offer in this year's SL-Class, which receives cosmetic extras including red-painted accents for the front and rear spoilers, callipers, and alloy wheels.

Inside, several red and matte carbon trim garnishes appear, as do headrests etched with "Mille Miglia 417" lettering.

Only 500 examples of the 417 Mille Miglia will go on sale globally. It is unknown if or how many examples are allocated to Australia. Mercedes-Benz Australia have been contacted for a response.

To be applied to SL 400 and SL 500 variants the treatment echoes Mercedes' 1995 special edition of the same name, then applied to R129-series SL 320 and SL 500 variants.

Locally, the Mercedes-Benz SL-Class retails from $229,000 for the 'entry' grade SL 400 through to $481,000 for the range-topping SL 65 AMG. Should the model arrive Down Under expect a modest premium for the 417 Mille Miglia special edition.

The Mercedes-Benz SL-Class 417 Mille Miglia will be officially unveiled at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show early March.
