Hear the Nissan Juke-R fire up

Nissan's bonkers mini-crossover moves a step closer to reality; latest drip-feed video features the twin-turbo V6 firing up

Nissan has released another in its video series focusing on the steroidal Juke-R, and the latest is arguably the most tantalising as it shows the car in its final state of readiness (at least visually), and you even get to hear the twin-turbo V6 being roused into life.

The video below follows in the wake of a sequence of short features detailing the lengthy build process that went into modifying the Juke from its relatively tame donor state into the bulging, muscle-bound ‘R’ version.

For now Nissan has said two examples of the Juke-R will be built – one left-hand-drive and one right-hooker – but it’s not known exactly what the upshot will be farther down the track.

The official line for now is that the Juke-R is merely a toe-in-the-water project to examine the prospects for a hotter version of the baby crossover.

The next step in the development process is a test phase to sort out the final suspension and drivetrain calibration, after which the pair of go-faster Jukes will be presumably trundled out around the world as a publicity-generating exercise.

Clearly evident from the video and the accompanying pics are the five round vents in the front bumper to provide cooling for the twin-turbo 3.8-litre V6, and there are also submerged ducts in the bonnet to channel additional air through the engine bay.

The massively flared guards are stuffed full of the GT-R’s 20-inch Rays forged alloy wheels, while sculpted side skirts connect the front and rear wheel arches.

The Juke-R looks equally menacing from the rear, with its squat stance complemented by a tailor-made diffuser with cut-outs for a pair of drainpipe exhausts. There’s also a pair of wings at the trailing edge of the roof to provide added high-speed stability.

Inside, there are twin race seats, race harnesses and a race-spec rollcage, as well as the GT-R’s steering wheel, pedals, dials and 7-inch touch-screen display.
