Honda continues EV rollout overseas
Two new EV prototypes under Honda’s e:N series to be unveiled in April, but no action on Aussie front yetHonda has posted a shadowy teaser of two new battery-electric prototype cars it will unveil at the Shanghai motor show on April 18.
Confirmed as new members of Honda’s emerging e:N family of electric cars, the single image suggests the car-maker will unveil two new small SUVs.
It’s unclear if this so-called “second set” of e:N prototypes will join the Honda e:NS1 and e:NP1 that have been on sale in China since 2021, or represent updates to the current models.
It could also herald the new 2023 Honda e:Ny1 that was shown in prototype form 12 months ago and reaches European markets this year.
Honda has previously confirmed it will launch 10 EVs in China by 2027, produce two million EVs in 2030, assemble its last internal combustion engine by 2040 and be carbon-neutral by 2050.
Although Honda has no plans to offer EVs in Australia for at least five years, concentrating on hybrid cars instead, at a global level the Japanese car-maker has previewed concepts for an e:N Coupe, e:N SUV and an e:N GT – and all three have already been locked in for production.
All models come with razor-sharp styling that ensure you won’t mistake them for any other combustion or hybrid-powered Honda.
Whatever the body shape, all Honda e:N EVs are based on the car-maker’s all-new dedicated e:N Architecture F that’s said to deliver both “outstanding vehicle stability and crisp handling”.
Inside, the new models should boast a “clean and uncluttered digital cockpit” that will allow owners to enjoy “intellectual exhilaration” – whatever that means.
The e:N2 will also debut the latest-generation Honda CONNECT operating system that should see it come with cutting-edge infotainment.
Honda says it will unveil its Honda CONNECT 4.0 at the Shanghai auto show, along with its latest Honda SENSING 360 advanced driver assist tech.
