Honda creates meaner mower to crack 215km/h
Not content with its 188km/h speed record, Japanese mower maker shoehorns Fireblade engine into world's fastest grass cutterHonda has released a new video of an even more powerful lawnmower it hopes will set a new Guinness world record.
Imaginatively called the Mean Mower Mk2, the second-gen sit-on mower sees the retirement of the former version's Honda Firestorm-sourced 1000cc V-twin engine for a more powerful unit lifted straight from the Honda CBR1000RR Fireblade superbike.
Under the bonnet of the Mean Mower II, it's thought the 999cc four-cylinder engine will produce even more power (and torque) than the 141kW/116Nm it churns out in the fast bike.
If so, Honda's aim to exceed a blustery 215km/h should be relatively easy.
The original Mean Mower recorded an astonishing 187.6km/h back in 2014, clinching the record of the world's fastest lawnmower.
This year the Mean Mower Mk2 will be driven by former British karting champ and MINI Challenge racer, Jessica Hawkins.
The biggest challenge to overcome is the lack of stability at high speed caused by both the small mower's ultra-short wheelbase and its bluff brick wall-like nose's aero.
It's not yet known when Honda plans to make its record attempt.
