Honda goes squeaky green

New website focuses on corporate responsibility

Lots of soothing natural shades and a clearly responsible global viewpoint feature large in a new environmental website from Honda.

Check out Honda's green website to get an encouraging snapshot of what the world could be like if the directions being pushed by Honda (and many others) are transformed into reality.

According to Honda, the site aims to "provide an overview of Honda's activities to reduce emissions and carbon dioxide throughout the entire production life-cycle, and Honda's passion in developing non-fossil fuel alternatives to provide a safer, greener future for our next generations."

With this as the basic guiding theme, the very visual site talks about the things Honda is doing in the interests of keeping our plant liveable, including its development of hybrid cars, ever-cleaner diesels, better petrol engine technology (through various technologies including iVTEC, variable cylinder management and variable-expansion design), and efforts in making cleaner motorcycle and aircraft engines. The site also looks at the development of fuel cell technology.

The manufacturing process is also addressed, covering issues such as dealing with "substances of concern" (lead, mercury, cadmium, hexavalent chromium), as well as CO2 emissions and landfill -- even packaging -- and outlining the company's measures to minimise or completely eliminate future environmental impacts.

If you want to know more about bringing environmental responsibility closer to home -- such as generating your own hydrogen for powering your fuel-cell car via natural gas that is also used to generate electricity for, and heat your home -- the base information is on the website.

With the verdant green landscapes, duck families crossing grass-bordered roads as deer graze peacefully nearby, and the gentle wafting of a tree-leaf past the screen as each new page is opened, it's all positively meditational.
