Honda has sold an entire year’s worth of new S660s just weeks after the small sports car went on sale this April.
Priced at just $22,000 in Japan, some 8600 cars were sold between April and June, forcing Honda to close the order books until the factory can catch up with demand.
The order books will now only re-open for 2016 this October.
Another surprise for the sporty S660, four out of five buyers were aged over 40.
According to reports from newswire, Bloomberg, because of the stagnating economy, more and more younger Japanese buyer no longer see the need to own a car -- equating to an incredible 46 per cent fall in the number of driving licence holders under the age of 40.
A larger, more powerful 95kW version of the S660 (thought to be renamed the S1000) is expected to be destined for export markets incuding Australia some time in 2017.
Prices for the new S1000 are rumoured to start well under $30,000.
