Genesis Australia has announced the upcoming Magma high-performance portfolio will be offered Down Under from 2026.
“The Magma high-performance range will launch with GV60 Magma in early 2026,” Genesis Motors Australia boss Justin Douglass told journalists at a recent media event.
Douglass went onto to confirm pre-production versions of the hot electric crossover would arrive on local soil from early 2025 to build anticipation among potential buyers ahead of its official debut.
Revealed earlier this year at the New York motor show, full details of the GV60 Magma have yet to be revealed, however it’s widely expected the high-performance EV will be a shrunken, more luxurious version of the Hyundai IONIQ 5 N, meaning it could push out as much as 478kW/770Nm and deliver a sub-3.5 second 0-100km/h sprint.
As well as the GV60 Magma, Douglass said hot versions of Genesis’ full range would follow as it was his “intention to expand the Magma range across our existing portfolio”.
The current pre-production Magma portfolio comprises go-faster versions of the G80 Electrified, GV80 SUV and the wild 787kW hybrid X Gran Berlinetta hypercar concept.
Pricing for the GV60 Magma is tipped to start at about $130,000 plus on-road costs, positioning it well above its IONIQ 5 N ($111,000) sibling but still downstream of the G80 and GV70 EVs.
