LA MOTOR SHOW: Subaru Impreza sedan concept

Four-door concept version of Subaru's next small car to follow Tokyo show's Impreza hatch concept

We saw the Impreza hatch concept at last month's Tokyo motor show and now Subaru has revealed a teaser shot of the Impreza sedan concept it will reveal at next week's Los Angeles show.

Subaru has provided no details of the four-door Impreza show car that will be unveiled by the president and CEO of Fuji Heavy Industries, Yasuyuki Yoshinaga, on November 19.

But chances are the contemporary new small car design will follow roughly the same dimensions as the five-door at 4400mm long and 1440mm high, making it marginally shorter and lower than the existing Impreza hatch but some 60mm wider.

Subaru Australia managing director, Nick Senior, told motoring.com.au in Tokyo the hatch concept "was a good look at the next Impreza [hatch]", so it stands to reason LA's sedan concept is an accurate indication of the next Impreza sedan.

Like the new Impreza hatch, the sedan is believed to be based on an all-new platform from Subaru, and will also feature the next generation of Subaru’s Eyesight active safety system.

Also expect the next Impreza to introduce the wider use of Subaru’s latest 1.6-litre direct-injected turbo-petrol boxer four, which with 125kW and 250Nm will offer similar performance to naturally aspirated 2.0-2.5-litre engines.

The bad news is Subaru's next-generation Impreza is two years away from local shores, with an Australian release unlikely until the second half of 2017.
