CarNewsChina.com has posted pics that it says show BMW is secretly working on a production car featuring its hydrogen fuel cell technology.
The images, filed with a Chinese patent office, appear to show a dramatic concept for a car larger than an i3 but smaller than an i8.
Underneath its carbon-fibre skin, according to the patent, is a development of the fuel cell technology that made its debut on the BMW i8 Hydrogen Fuel Cell concept that was shown off in July.
Despite looking like a concept car from the 1990s, the images of the small coupe reveal an ultra-aerodynamic 2+2 coupe that’s said to feature active aero and narrow tyres.
The patent drawings are unlikely to be of a production car with the tell-tale signs of cameras in the doors instead of wing mirrors.
BMW has already announced it will have a fuel cell car ready and on sale by 2020.
The concept car, likely to be badged an ‘i’ could be seen as soon as the LA motor show in a couple of weeks’ time.
