Leaked: Mercedes CLS 63 AMG Shooting Brake

Mercedes-Benz recently revealed its CLS Shooting Brake, and now pictures of the AMG-prepped CLS 63 have inadvertently been leaked onto the company’s German consumer site.

The images and a smattering of info were pulled from the site not long after they popped up, but they were online long enough for several outlets to pick up on the story.

As expected, the AMG range-topper gains a beefier stance, along with bespoke front bumper/spoiler, grille and a tasty set of black rims (at least on the car pictured alongside). It also sports gloss-black wing mirrors.

As per its CLS 63 AMG sedan sibling, the AMG Shooting Brake packs a twin-turbo 5.5-litre V8 that kicks out 386kW and 700Nm – or 410kW and 800Nm with the optional Performance Package.

The twin-turbo V8 is hooked up to Speedshift MCT seven-speed automatic, which does away with a conventional torque converter in favour of a wet start-up clutch for faster response and a more connected feel.

As per the regular CLS Shooting Brake, the AMG version is likely to feature a deck-like wooden floor of American cherry with oak inlays in the luggage area and hand-stitched leather sideliners.

Unlike the CLS sedan, which is configured as a four-seater, the Shooting Brake is equipped with five seats and it offers 590 litres of luggage space – or 1590 litres with the rear seats folded down.

On paper, the CLS Shooting Brake does appear to offer some benefits in terms of practicality and opulence, but it remains to be seen whether buyers will warm to its unconventional looks.
