Rumours of the SLS Gullwing’s death are overstated. Indeed, it now looks set that so-called SLC will to be sold alongside AMG’s standout Gullwing sporty.
We published pictures of the Mercedes-AMG SLC a few weeks ago but at the time our spymasters Carparazzi could only tell us so much...
Now, more information about the SLC has come to light... And the key news is both SLS and SLC are set to co-exist.
Indeed, far from a successor to the SLS as originally reported, the SLC will complement the larger car in the AMG stable. Just as the Mercedes SLK is positioned in the market below the SL, so the SLC will be sold alongside the SLS.
The finished product will look quite different from the mule cars photographed to date, our sources infer. Fresh new sheet metal will feature, wrapped around a shortened version of the space frame chassis developed for the SLS.
The SLC will thus become Mercedes-AMG's second exclusive design to be built in-house.
Not only will this provide the Affalterbach firm with a model more accessible than the SLS for a broader slice of the market, but it will also help justify the development costs of the chassis it shares, paving the way for the model family to be built and further developed well into the future.
