Mercedes-Benz has confirmed that the high-performance flagship of the A-Class range, the A 45 AMG, will be priced at $74,900 when it goes on sale in Australia from September.
Word first leaked out a couple of weeks ago that the A 45 would come in just under $75,000, but now it's official. That price places the A 45 hard up against the ceiling for the Luxury Car Tax dispensation applicable to vehicles returning fuel consumption figures of 7.0L/100km or less. The A 45 is yet to appear in the online fuel consumption bible, the Green Vehicle Guide, but NEDC (New European Drive Cycle) figures for the car range from 6.9 to 7.1L/100km. Achieving such a fuel consumption figure is something of a feat for a car with a turbocharged 2.0-liter engine that produces 265kW and 450Nm. More impressive still, in light of its frugal fuel use, is the car's ability to cover the sprint from 0-100km/h in a V8-like time of 4.6 seconds.
Drive is via 4Matic all-wheel drive to the 19-inch wheels. Standard features will include AMG Performance Exhaust, COMAND Online, Intelligent Light System, Panoramic Roof and AMG Performance Seats with Electric Memory Function. Key safety equipment fitted as standard will consist of Distronic Plus and Blind Spot & Lane Keep Assist.
“The A 45 AMG is set to revolutionise the performance car market and continues the success story of AMG products in our market”, said Horst Von Sanden, Managing Director Mercedes-Benz Cars Australia/Pacific. “The A 45 AMG delivers not only cutting-edge technology, but also a thrilling driving experience. This is high-performance AMG personified.”
