Mercedes-Benz Airport Express launches 'Heli-Express'
Get a lift to work while the Benz is serviced at Melbourne AirportMercedes-Benz has made it official – Melbourne-based customers dropping their car for servicing at the prestige brand's Airport Express facility can now hop a chopper flight from the airport to the city.
As we reported last year, local helicopter operator Air Melbourne has entered into an agreement with Mercedes-Benz to transport corporate high fliers to Melbourne's CBD – while the car is being serviced.
The flight comes at a price ($274 each way), but is worth that for the time saved: just four minutes from Tullamarine to the Yarra at South Wharf... and the views sure beat the rear end of a tatty yellow Falcon. Furthermore, Mercedes owners will likely appreciate the level of comfort and technology bundled up in the twin-engined Agusta helicopters, which can seat up to seven.
Air Melbourne operates the Heli-Express service during daylight hours and offers direct clearance from the airport. The company is commencing a service from Tullamarine to Moorabbin Airport this month and also plans to offer flights to Lilydale (in Melbourne's outer east) in future.
"Mercedes-Benz Airport Express already offers our customers the ability to have their vehicle serviced whilst they travel and to take the hassle out of traffic and parking with our valet service to the terminal," said Horst Von Sanden, CEO Mercedes-Benz Australia.
"Our facility at Mercedes-Benz Airport Express has proven itself with strong demand from customers and we have added the Heli-Express service to add another dimension of convenience especially for time poor customers. It cements the facility as unrivalled by any other manufacturer in our market."
John Borg, a Director at Air Melbourne, is himself a customer of Mercedes-Benz Airport Express. He saw an opening for his company, partnering with Benz to ensure VIPs spend the least amount of time in travel to the city after leaving the car to be serviced.
"We saw an opportunity to offer a service that meets the needs of travellers who need to maximise their time on the ground," Borg was quoted saying in a press release.
"Heli-Express provides a fast and efficient service without the stress and frustration that occurs from travel delays due to traffic congestion. Heli-Express maximises your time on the ground by flying you directly from Melbourne Airport to the CBD in approximately four minutes. It is a service that is unrivalled in the market and the perfect complement to the convenience of Mercedes-Benz Airport Express."
Customers may reserve a place on one of the choppers directly through Air Melbourne, or through Mercedes-Benz Airport Express.
