Mercedes debuts stunning Electric Silver Arrows tribute

Mercedes-Benz has released images of a new pure-electric hypercar concept it will reveal at the 2018 Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance on August 26.

Named the Aesthetic Progressive Luxury concept, the stunning single-seat hypercar draws direct inspiration from the W25 Avus, T80 and W125 Mercedes Silver Arrow race cars that competed in the 1930s.

Created under the guidance of Mercedes-Benz design boss, Gorden Wagener, the wild hypercar concept is set to become a one-off flagship for the car-maker's forthcoming EQ sub-brand.

Beneath its skin is said to be a state-of-the-art pure-electric powertrain.

It's understood 'Benz bosses are keen for the one-off battery-powered homage to the Silver Arrow to match the original W125's top speed, a land-speed record of 432.7km/h set in 1938 on the A5 autobahn between Frankfurt and Darmstadt.

Beneath the concept's sculptured lines, the Aesthetic Progressive Luxury is set to showcase a performance-biased pure-electric powertrain that blends at least two powerful electric motors to provide for all-wheel drive.

It's not yet known how the powertrain differs from the EQ's batteries and electric motors that will be used in the forthcoming EQ C SUV. Engineers have purportedly overcome the difficulties involved with drawing exceedingly high currents from lithium-ion cells needed to generate the big power needed for a hypercar.

Expect the concept's know-how to reappear on future pure-electric AMG models.

According to its designers, the concept cleverly incorporates modern F1 aerodynamics into the design, including elements like the centre fin, which aids in high-speed stability.
