The MINI JCW (John Cooper Works) Convertible has arrived in local showrooms, priced from $54,900.
Described by the manufacturer as the most powerful MINI Convertible ever, the JCW variant develops the same engine output as the hatch – 170kW and 320Nm – from the same 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine, which is coupled to a six-speed automatic transmission specified as standard.
The JCW variant comes with shift paddles, but buyers can also elect to order the car with a six-speed manual for no extra charge. Drive is channelled to the front wheels via an electronically lockable differential.
Top speed is 240km/h and the MINI JCW Convertible will complete the 0-100km/h run in 6.5 seconds. Fuel consumption is claimed to be as low as 6.2L/100km in combined-cycle testing, thanks to fuel-saving technology in the form of idle-stop/brake energy recovery and active cooling flaps.
Other JCW tweaks for the Convertible include sports suspension with Dynamic Damper Control and additional bracing for the body.
Sports seats, a 12-speaker Harman/Kardon audio system with DAB+ digital radio, a reversing camera, Navigation system Professional, a head-up display, LED headlights, front/rear parking sensors and 18-inch alloy wheels are all fitted as standard.
The folding roof retracts within 18 seconds, at speeds of up to 30km/h, and will slide back 40cm at any speed.
