New 2019 Mazda3 teased

First look at hatch ahead of LA debut

The tease has begun ahead of the fourth generation Mazda3’s unveiling at the Los Angeles motor show next month.

Mazda has issued a 15 second video showing two side angles of the vital new small car; the area around the hatch and C-pillar and then sweeping along the side.

The video ends with the words ‘A new era begins’ and then ‘November 2018’.

And that’s it.

What we already do know is the new Mazda3 will debut Mazda’s Skyactiv-X spark controlled compression ignition petrol engine technology.

Mazda promises SPCCI will deliver turbo-diesel torque and economy, ultra-low emissions and the refinement and responsiveness of high-performance petrol four-cylinder.

The new Mazda3 will be underpinned by a new chassis, which is promised to deliver a substantial improvement in Mazda’s consistent NVH (noise, vibration and harshness) bugbear.

We delved into this in more depth based on a prototype drive in Germany in late 2017.

And if you want a bit more of an idea of the exterior styling than the video delivers, check out the Kai concept from the 2017 Tokyo motor show.

While the Mazda3 hatchback is the subject of the teaser and is expected to be unveiled in LA, a sedan version is confirmed to continue in production.

The new Mazda3 is expected to arrive in Australia in the first half of 2019.

Despite its age the current Mazda3 is still a top 10 seller in Australia, number two in the small car segment behind the Toyota Corolla and remains Mazda’s biggest selling model here.
