MINI Australia has announced the new-generation 2024 MINI Cooper range will be priced from $41,990 plus on-road costs, with first examples of the three-door models due Down Under in the third quarter of this year.
Eight new MINI Cooper variants will be offered at launch across four trim levels – Core, Classic Favoured and JCW Sport – as well as four powertrains: two turbo-petrol and two battery-electric.
The petrol-powered hatchback models are based on a revised version of the current platform, while the EVs are new from the ground up, underpinned by an all-new architecture developed in conjunction with China’s GWM.
The turbo-petrol combustion engines are a 115kW/230Nm 1.5-litre three-cylinder and 150kW/300Nm 2.0-litre four-cylinder, both driving the front wheels via a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
The EV powertrains both have a single electric motor but pack in different outputs and batteries – 135kW/290Nm e-motor with 41kWh battery; and 160kW/360Nm e-motor with 54kWh battery.
Claimed driving ranges for the EVs are pegged at 305km and 405km respectively.
The 1.5-litre ICE is found in Cooper C variants, reserving the gutsier 2.0-litre for Cooper S grades (from $49,990). The electric models are the Cooper E ($53,990) and SE ($58,990).
See the full price list below.
Exclusive to the Cooper C line-up is the base Core trim, which is headlined by sports seats and steering wheel, wireless smartphone mirroring, a six-speaker sound system, wireless charging pad, cruise control, piano black trim and park assist.
Stepping up to the Classic adds adaptive cruise control, park assist plus, a 360-degree camera, heated front seats, augmented reality navigation, glass roof, interior camera, automatic speed limit assist and lane control assist.
The Cooper C Favoured goes further with a 12-speaker sound system, power-adjustable JCW seats with memory function, active driver’s seat functions, black headliner, silver trim elements and privacy glass.
Most of these features are found on the equivalent Cooper S – that is, Cooper C Classic/Favoured versus Cooper S Classic/Favoured – with the performance upgrade the main point of differentiation.
That said, the JCW Sport builds on the Favoured spec with a JCW body kit, steering wheel, interior colourway and sport brakes, plus adaptive suspension, paddle shifters and sport stripes for the exterior.
Both the Cooper E and the more powerful Cooper SE are only offered in Classic guise, and while the former mimics the specification outlined above, the latter scores a few extra niceties pinched from the Favoured trim to underscore its position at the top of the Cooper family (for now).
These bonuses include power-adjustable and heated JCW seats with memory function, active seat functions for the driver, sun protection glazing and a black headliner.
All MINI Cooper models come with a head-up display, 9.4-inch circular infotainment interface, 17- or 18-inch alloy wheels and a three-door body style.
